No apologies necessary, Jon....next time, just start with what you know and
go from there.
I would certainly suggest visiting the FHS and seeing what you can
find. I will caution you that nothing submitted to the Ancestral files is
documented, so never take what you find there as true; use it as a clue and
go on the prove or disprove it with your own primary research. Also, the
IGI file has many photographed records, but also contains things merely
submitted by contributors, and undocumented...so what you find there must be
documented by you, too.. I checked the on-line site for the LDS and
their IGI lists a Humphrey Lamborn b. abt 1835 in West Bradford, Sussex,Del
who married Josephine G. Turner....this information is found on film# 448049
pg.. 0020 Reference # 32190. If you visit, they will order this film for
you. Unfortunately the entry doesn't list the contributors name and
address; I always check for that information, and send the person a SASE
and ask if they will share their documentation sources with me. Most people
don't answer, but it's always worth a try.
At the LDS you may also order any census from anywhere. I would suggest
you order a census for the place you feel Humphrey lived, and a year when he
would have been alive, and look for an adult male Head of Household named
Lamborn (all spellings) who had a male child the age Humphry would have
been.
Did you ever get the death certificate for Humphry? These often list
parents names and place of birth.....have you checked to see if there are
are wills that mention Humphry?
And, a word of advice....do not assume anything to be true. Stick to
what you KNOW...what you can prove. If you assume that Humphrey's father is
so and so, because you see it written (but not documented) is a book, take
that as a clue ONLY, not a given...if you assume it to be so it might
prevent you from the further research that would give you the real name.
Many of us do much of our research long distance......I, personally,
have never been in Chester county....so, I've gotten pretty chummy with the
wonderful women in who are so good to send wills, etc........
Hopefully, the above suggestions will give you some results.....much of
the time there are no shortcuts, and poring over census records, etc, is the
way we all end up, one time or another!

S.
