In an effort to increase understanding of Friends and their practices,
individuals were not"kicked out" of meeting, as Dora indicates. In my
previous message on this topic, I explained, briefly, the process through
which the monthly meeting went to retain the "errant" individual's
membership. The only time a Friend was disowned was if he or she did not make
acknowledgment or the acknowledgment was considered in appropriate or
insincere.
I've been on this list (and others) for about 5 years now, and every time I
see the expression "kicked out," it's like fingernails on a blackboard. If
anyone would like additional information on the Quaker discipline process and
what disownment meant, please feel free to contact me.
