Subject: [PACHESTE] underage marriages

This didn't happen in Chester, but I've had no experience with this
sort of thing anywhere, and hope some of you have, and can "clue me in."
My ancestor, Susan Ann. married under age (1841), and the certificate
said that she did so with the approval of her guardian (un-named, of
course). Now then, could this have been her parent? If her parents were
dead, would someone have had to have been appointed her guardian, legally?
I thought that sort of thing was necessary if there had been a will and the
underage person was left money, land, etc...but, if there was no will, etc,
and the girl just went to live with an uncle, for instance, could this uncle
just have accompanied her to the JP and "signed" for her, so to speak,
without legalities? Hope I haven't been too confusing.....I'm trying to
figure out whether to try to find guardian bonds.....and, in 2 different
states!
