I thought that I would add my $.02 to this URL thread.
Many email clients do not handle long strings of characters very well.
They tend to split the string with a hard carriage return rather than a
soft one.
Unfortunately, URLs are sometimes long strings. I often see folks add a
warning something like "Warning, URLs may wrap" when they post URLs. It
is a little heads up for the other list members. A wrapped URL is not
the fault of the sender.
A URL is nothing more than a file location on another computer. Most of
it looks just like a directory path on our individual computers. This
is a bit simplified, but the "http:" (or "ftp:") part specifies the
protocol (or method of conversing), the computer is specified by the
"//www...." portion and the file name is specified by the remainder. If
the URL does not end in ".htm", ".html", ".asp", etc., then the web
server that you are connecting to will usually look for a file named
"index.htm"("index.html") or "default.htm"("default.html") in the path
specified.
Now, with that little lesson out of the way, all I can say is that as
users, we need to be aware of what a URL should look like and understand
that they will sometimes wrap.
If the URL has wrapped and you get an error when you click on the
highlighted part, then either type or copy & paste the missing portion
to the end of the URL in your browser's Location: field.
