Hi Chuck: I do recognize most of those names. Although I'm not sure if I
know any cousins (as they could be women who married), but I must say I
recognize the surnames you gave me. That could be because I've wandered that
cemetery many a times and have probably seen their stones. I have thought,
many a time, to ask Pastor Dale for a copy of the list of everyone buried
there so I could make it public on the net, although I have not gotten around
to it.
I can however, help you out a great deal. I visit the cemetery (it's not
very big at all) and it is about 10 minutes at the most from my home. I can
take a ride down there sometime in the next few days and find your stones. I
have a digital camera so I can snap pics and upload them to you.
Here's the history of St. Vincent's church, otherwise known as "The Whisky
Church"
Way way back a long time ago East Vincent was the only church there.
Everything was fine until a few of the members decided they didn't want the
rest of the members drinking or dealing with alcohol. At least half of the
members were either Tavern owners or farmers (who paid their hired hands with
alcohol). So, the ones that dealt with alcohol broke away from East Vincent
and formed their own church, and ALAS! St. Vincent was formed and for all
these years it has been handed down that we are the "Whisky Church". Of
course East Vincent members didn't care much for St. Vincent members and it's
kind of funny, but still to this day there is friction amongst the two
churches. Like I said, I've been a member since I was born which has been
almost 33 years. Up until about 7-8 years ago the two churches shared a
minister. The parsonage is located in between the two churches and the
minister would do his sermon at East Vincent at 9:00 am and then come to St.
Vincent to preach at 11:00 am. But now, it has all changed and each church
has it's own pastor. So now you know the history of your ancestor's church.
Kimberton is about 2 miles (if that) south of Phoenixville. The address I
gave you is the only one I've ever known. If you were ever in the area, it
could be confusing as Phoenixville, Kimberton and Spring City are all about 2
miles apart so I can see how you may have come up with different addresses.
I will take a ride over there, hopefully this weekend if I have time, and get
the pics of the stones for you. I wish you all the luck in your search.
Also, Phoenixville has a historical society that you may want to check into.
Have a great day!
Deneen
