ATTENTION Chester Co. List: FYI. This information is being cross posted
to
several other County lists. Since there may be some people on this list -
especially some "newbies" who might not be aware of sites on which they may be
able to find information on early ancestors - regardless of the County/ies where
they had settled - I thought it a good idea to point out this:

The three original Counties in Pennsylvania were, Bucks, Chester, and
Philadelphia. Lancaster Co. was formed out of Chester Co. in 1729; York Co.
was formed out of Lancaster Co. in 1741; and Delaware Co. was formed out of
Chester Co. in 1789 (WHY such a late date????). Many surnames will be found
inter-twined in especially Philadelphia, Chester, and Delaware Counties (and
perhaps Bucks Co. also) because of the history thereof. Ashmead's "History Of
Delaware County" is available online at
<http://www.delcohistory.org/ashmead/index.htm>;; which supplies much information
pertaining to all three of those Counties (not only Delaware) - and is
searchable by surname (don't forget various spellings). [Makes for interesting
reading - a few pages an evening!] If there is any such book on the history of
Philadelphia Co. available, would someone please let me know. Also, for Civil
war record research (especially), I have found this very excellent:
