LACKEY, BRUNTON, HINKSON, IFFT, MACKEY, SHOOK
Elmer Lackey, 85, formerly of 11291/2 Otter St., died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday,
March 13, 2001, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin RD 3. Born June 16, 1915,
in Franklin, he was a son of Homer and Florence Stuck Lackey. He was a
graduate of Franklin High School. Mr. Lackey retired in 1977 as a toolmaker
for Joy Manufacturing after 25 years of service. He was a member of Christ
United Methodist Church and the Franklin Moose Club. Mr. Lackey enjoyed
gardening and traveling. He was married July 3, 1939, to Inez Hardenburg,
who died in September 1971. Surviving are four children, James L. Lackey and
his wife, Clara, of Franklin, Barbara Germond of Margate, Fla., Mrs. Kenneth
(Helen) Burns of Milwaukee, Ore., and Mrs. John (Leah) Book of Slippery
Rock; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a
brother and his wife, Harry and Loretta Lackey of Orlando, Fla.; and two
sisters, Mary Holden of Franklin and Betty Karns of Oil City. Mr. Lackey was
preceded in death by his parents and wife. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m.
Friday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Dr. David Holste, pastor
of Christ United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset
Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society,
10 W. Front St., Oil City 16301.
Ralph E. Brunton, 84, of 716 Grant St., died late Wednesday afternoon, March
14, 2001, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin. The Huff Chapel is in
charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Friday in The
News-Herald.
Kenneth J. Hinkson Sr., 92, of Franklin, died early Wednesday morning, March
14, 2001, in Sugar Valley Lodge, Franklin RD 3. Born Nov. 25, 1908, in
Tidioute, he was a son of Jay and Pearl Doldphwaite Hinkson. Mr. Hinkson was
self-employed. He enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool. Mr. Hinkson was
married in 1930 to Dorothy O'Shaughnesy, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth "Jack" Hinkson Jr. and his wife, Linda, of
Franklin; a daughter, Kay Willman of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He also is
survived by two sisters, Wanda Ellis of Pleasantville and Frances Howe of
Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents
and wife, Mr. Hinkson was preceded in death by a grandson, John Hinkson; and
two sisters, Glaydas Pachnick and Mildred Cushman. The Gabauer Funeral Home,
273 Route 68, Rochester, Pa., is in charge of arrangements. There will be no
visitation. All services are private.
Gale E. Ifft, 76, a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home, formerly of
Sibley Avenue, died at 3:56 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Northwest
Medical Center at Franklin. Born April 21, 1924, in Franklin, he was a son
of Eugene G. and Orpha L. Wigton Ifft. He served in the U.S. Army Field
Artillery during World War II with duty in North Africa and Italy. Mr. Ifft
was the owner and operator of Hillcrest Greenhouse. He was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. Mr. Ifft also was a member of Myrtle
Lodge No. 316, the Valley of Oil City and the Valley of New Castle. He
enjoyed art, crafts and candy making and was a stamp collector. Surviving
are two brothers, Dr. Robert C. Ifft of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Richard
H. Ifft of Franklin; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Helwig of Lititz.
Mr. Ifft was preceded in death by his parents. The Robert W. Gardinier
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with
the Rev. Daniel Callahan, pastor of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian
Church, officiating. Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery. Memorials
may be made to Masonic charities or to the First Presbyterian Church of
Franklin.
Anne Katherine Schill Mackey, 86, of 235 Hoffman Ave., wife of Henry Mackey,
died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Beverly Healthcare, Oil
City. The Hutchinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete
obituary will be published Friday in The Derrick.
Walter A. Shook, 87, of 646 Boxwood Drive, Mira Loma, Calif., formerly of
Corona, Calif., died of heart disease Monday, March 12, 2001, in Kaiser
Foundation Hospital, Riverside, Calif. He was born Jan. 12, 1914, in
Madisonburg. Mr. Shook served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World
War II, with duty in the South Pacific. He was the owner/operator of the
Flaming Arrow Motel for 16 years in Corona, retiring in 1976. Mr. Shook was
a former member of the Congregational Church. He was a member of the Corona
Elks Lodge No. 2045. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Shook of Mira Loma,
Calif.; a cousin, Stan Hettinger of New Jersey; and a niece, Deidre Bett of
Dana Point, Calif. Mr. Shook had many relatives in the Franklin area.
Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Thomas Miller Mortuary,
1118 E. Sixth St., Corona, Calif. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in
the funeral home. Private burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery,
Riverside, Calif.
