LARRY E. VOGAN (includes photo)
Larry E. Vogan, 53, of 292 Masterson Road, Oil City, died at 1:19
a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at UPMC Northwest, Franklin.
Born Jan. 25, 1949, in Oil City, he was the son of Ida Mae READY
Vogan and the late Donald E. Vogan.
Mr. Vogan worked for 24 years as an electrician at Pennzoil.
He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
Mr. Vogan enjoyed hunting and NASCAR racing.
He was married Jan. 25, 1979, to the former Frances E. "Sis"
SHAUGHNESSY, who survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Ida Mae Vogan of Seneca; four sons,
Travis P. Vogan and Kevin A. Vogan, both at home, and Scott D. Vogan
and Greg A. Vogan, both of Cranberry.
He also is survived by one brother, Kenneth A. Vogan of Oil City; and
two sisters, Cathy FINK and Cindy NEELY, both of Oil City.
Mr. Vogan was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Vogan.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the
Morrison Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Terry Shaughnessy, brother-in-law of Mr. Vogan,
officiating.
Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the
American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

ROBERT CALDWELL
Robert Caldwell, 80, of Oceanside, Ore., formerly of Fertigs, died
Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in his residence.
Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Fertigs, he was one of eight children born to
Roy and Vivian MUDGE Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell grew up on his parents' farm in Fertigs, working on the
farm, driving the team of horses, plowing fields and logging nearby
lands.
Prior to his service in World War II, Mr. Caldwell worked in the ship
yards building ships.
Mr. Caldwell served in the U.S. Army in Normandy during the D-Day
Invasion of World War II, landing on Utah Beach with the 90th
Division. During the battle at St. Lo, he was shot six times by a
German machine gun.
He then was sent to a hospital and it was there he met his wife,
Elizabeth SMELTZER, whom he married Feb. 13, 1945, in Oil City. She
survives.
Mr. Caldwell later worked in a rubber factory in Erie until 1957,
when he moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and worked as a clerk and
supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service.
He retired in 1984 and several years later, moved to Oceanside, Ore.,
where he and his wife had visited on a vacation.
Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Disabled Veterans.
He loved to fish, care for his cats and take long walks on the beach.
Just last August, Mr. Caldwell was able to take a trip back to
Normandy with his son and granddaughter.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Robert Caldwell
of Helena, Mont., Stephen Caldwell of Cedar Crest, N.M., and Mark
Caldwell of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
He also is survived by a brother, John Caldwell of Girard; and a
sister, Joan TARR of Oil City.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Waud's Funeral
Home, 1414 Third St., Tillamook, Ore.

HOMER ROY SHAFFER
Homer Roy Shaffer, 62, of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday morning, Aug.
6, 2002, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo RD 1,
following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1939, in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County, he
was the son of Roy E. Shaffer of Distant and the late Ruth MINERD
Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He was employed by R.M.S. Furniture in New Bethlehem until his
illness.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are two daughters, Mrs. Dan
(Wendy) SNYDER and Mrs. Mark (Diana) NEISWONGER, both of New
Bethlehem; and four grandchildren, Cortney Snyder, Graham Snyder,
Bobbie Neiswonger and Shawn Neiswonger, all of New Bethlehem.
He also is survived by two sisters, Janet KLINGENSMITH of Columbus,
Ohio, and Grace SHERMAN of Tionesta; and three brothers, Jerry Shaffer
of Oil City, William Shaffer of Ford City and Richard Shaffer of
Titusville.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by a
sister, Norma Jean MINICH; and two brothers, Robert Shaffer and J.
Fred "Skip" Shaffer.
There will be no public visitation.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 11, in the Rupert Funeral Home in Oak Ridge.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the New
Bethlehem Area Free Public Library Building Fund, Broad Street, New
Bethlehem, 16242.

DOROTHA E. HAUCK
Dorotha E. Hauck, 93, of Summit Street, Brookville, died Tuesday,
Aug. 6, 2002, in Pennsylvania Memorial Home, Brookville.
The McKinney Funeral Home of Brookville is in charge of arrangements.
