FLOYD FINDLAY (includes photo)
Floyd Findlay, 88, of 950 Belmar Road, Franklin, died at 9:35 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in The Caring Place.
Born Jan. 10, 1914, in Rockland, he was a son of George and Anna
FORKER Findlay.
He graduated from Rockland High School in 1931.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Findlay served with the U.S. Army in
the Pacific Theater of Operations as a .50-caliber machine gun
operator with the 208th Antiaircraft Division. He received the Purple
Heart and the Presidential Citation. After the Army, he served for
three years in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed for eight years by the J. B. Berry & Sons Co. in Oil
City, a division of Sterling Oil. For 13 years he worked for
Pennsylvania Railroad, and after that, worked for 12 years as a
highway maintenance foreman for Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Findlay was a member of the East Grove United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, pitching horseshoes and spending time
with his grandchildren.
He was married March 3, 1951, to the former Flora A. GATES, who
preceded him in death Feb. 10, 1976.
He was married Jan. 6, 1979, to Wheeling RICHEY, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Faith Ann Findlay of Seneca; a son and
his wife, Park Vincent and Paula Findlay of Franklin; three step-sons
and their wives, Charles D. and Joyce Richey, Clinton P. and Nancy
Richey and Kim and Donna Richey, all of Franklin; three grandchildren,
Chad Vincent Findlay, Jarrett Floyd Findlay and Brittany Marie
Findlay, all of Franklin; seven step-grandchildren, Paul Richey and
his wife, Carrie, and Clint Richey of Oil City, Melissa Richey of
Grove City, Adam Richey and Andy Richey and his wife, Annie, all of
Franklin; Penny BOEHM and her husband, Mark, of Indonesia; and Mark
KRIZON, serving with the U.S. Army in Germany; four
step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, John B. Findlay of Emlenton.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death
by a sister, Mrs. James (Mussetta Ruth) McCORD; and a stepson, Timothy
I. Richey.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Huff
Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home
with the Rev. George Nagel, pastor of the East Grove United Methodist
Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Rockland Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to The Caring Place,
103 N. 13th St., Franklin, 16323, or the Visiting Nurses Association
of Venango County, 176 E. Bissell Ave., Oil City, 16301.

THOMAS E. 'T.E.' SCHNEIDER (includes photo)
Thomas E. "T.E." Schneider, 80, of 219 Cedar Ave., Oil City, died
with his loving family by his side at noon Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at
his home following an extended illness.
Born May 8, 1922, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Charles J.
and Elizabeth R. WISLER Schneider.
Mr. Schneider was a 1940 graduate of Oil City High School.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and previously worked at the
Oil City Eagles Club. He also was the owner-operator of Schneider's
Cigar Store.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church.
He had also belonged to the Eagles Club and was a life member of the
Pulaski Club and the PNA.
Mr. Schneider enjoyed supporting and attending his grandchildren's
sporting events and also enjoyed cooking and playing cards. He was an
avid pool player.
He was previously married to the former Albina Reikel.
Surviving are three daughters, Susie Schneider, Cindy Schneider and
Jane "Tootie" HALL and her husband, Bill, all of Oil City; two sons,
Terry Schneider of Wilmington, Del., and Karle Schneider and his wife,
Dee Ette, of Oil City; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Tanner and
Chelsea Hall and Tommy Schneider, all of Oil City.
Survivors also include two sisters, Rose BIGGS of Virginia Beach,
Va., and Barb HOGUE and her husband, Carl, of Oil City; a brother,
Jerry Schneider and his wife, Mary, of Oil City; three sisters-in-law,
Betsy Schneider, Monica SUMMERVILLE and Nancy Schneider; and his
longtime companion, Janice JOHNSON of Oil City.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters,
Kay PORT, Theresa Schneider, Rita SHOEMAKER and Mary HAMERSLEY; and
six brothers, Vincent, Joseph, Renwick "Rennie", Charles "Chuck",
George and Robert.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the convenience of the
family.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Clarion-Forest
VNA, the Oil City Blue & White Booster Club or the St. Joseph Church
Development Fund.
The Reinsel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JUNE A. DOVERSPIKE
June A. Doverspike, 92, of 999 Heidrick St., Clarion, formerly of New
Bethlehem RD 1, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, died at 6:10 a.m.
Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in the Clarion Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1909, in Redbank Township, Armstrong County, she was a
daughter of Harry H. SMITH and Dora A. HUFFMAN Smith.
Mrs. Doverspike was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Oakdale Church of the Brethren in Distant.
She was married to Carl L. Doverspike, who preceded her in death Dec.
25, 1990.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Norma GALLAGHER of New Bethlehem RD
1; a granddaughter, Mrs. Roger (Esther) CARRIER of New Bethlehem RD 1;
and two great-grandsons, Wayne TRUITT and his friend, Darla McCanna,
of Distant, and Richard Truitt and his wife, Rachel, of New Bethlehem
RD 1.
Survivors also include six great-great-grandchildren, Kayla Truitt,
Ryan Truitt, Kimberly Truitt, Branden Truitt, Miranda KUNSELMAN and
Ryan McCANNA.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
a son, Harris Doverspike; a daughter, Velma Doverspike; three sisters,
Grace PROCIOUS, Anna PENCE and Pearl Doverspike; and a brother, Miles
Merle DALEY.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Charles D.
Alcorn Funeral Home of Hawthorn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Lyle Westover of the Distant Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery at Beautiful Lookout,
Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.

ARTHUR M. KAUFMAN
Arthur M. Kaufman, 88, of Oil City, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9,
2002, at UPMC Northwest following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 9, 1913, in Oil City, he was a son of Samuel and Centennial
JOHNSON Kaufman. He lived in the Oil City area all his life.
Mr. Kaufman was a 1933 graduate of Oil City High School.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to
1945 in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Kaufman worked until he retired for Pennsylvania Electric Co. as
superintendent of right-of-ways.
He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church of Oil City and Petrolia
Lodge 363, F&AM.
He was married May 14, 1949, in Good Hope Lutheran Church to Hilda G.
KUEHNER, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Kaufman of Pahoa, Hawaii,
Debra Kaufman of Raleigh, N.C., and Trudy BREENE of Oil City; a son,
Thomas E. "Ted" Kaufman of Waynesville, N.C.; two grandchildren,
Parker Breene of Clarion and Sage Kaufman of Raleigh, N.C.; a
sister-in-law, Janet KUEHNER of New Albany, Ind.; and several nieces
and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers,
Charles and Andrew Kaufman; and a sister, Rita HAGERTY.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Osenider
Funeral Home, 15 W. First St., Oil City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home
with the Rev. Philip Scherr of Good Hope Lutheran Church officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Visiting
Nurses Association of Venango County, the Area Agency on Aging or Good
Hope Lutheran Church.

HOWARD A. SHAFFER
Howard A. Shaffer, 84, of Clarion died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8,
2002, in Clarion Hospital following an illness.
Surviving are his wife, Germaine Shaffer of Clarion; a son, Randall
B. Shaffer of Shippenville; a daughter, Mary Ellen STAHLMAN of
Clarion; and three granddaughters, Heidi Shaffer of Shippenville and
Bethany and Mallory Stahlman of Clarion.
There will be no public visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Immaculate
Conception Church in Clarion with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American
Cancer Society or a veterans charity.
The Goble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BETTY HERMAN WILLISON
Betty Herman Willison, 64, of Frogtown Road, Fairmount City, died at
7:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in St. Margaret Hospital in
Pittsburgh following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1938, in Frogtown, she was a daughter of the late Walter
Herman and Ruth THOMPSON DAVIS of Strattanville.
Mrs. Willison worked as a teller in the New Bethlehem Bank and also
as a teacher at the Intermediate Unit in Clarion until her retirement.
She was a member of the Leisure Run Methodist Church of Fairmount
City.
She enjoyed sewing and carving egg shells.
She was married June 9, 1957, to Ed Willison, who survives.
Also surviving are her mother, Ruth Davis of Strattanville; and a
brother, Keith Herman of Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her father and three half-sisters.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in
the Rupert Funeral Home of New Bethlehem.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home
with the Revs. Ben Shindledecker and David Pierce co-officiating.
Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery in Frogtown.

RICHARD SMITH HANCOX
Richard Smith Hancox, 80, of 1314 Otter St., Franklin, died at 4:15
p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in the emergency room of UPMC Northwest.
