William J. Franklin
William J. Franklin, 52, of 23 Tippery Road, Seneca, died at 4:40
p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at UPMC Northwest, Franklin.
Born Jan. 24, 1952, in Oil City, he was the son of Gilbert and
Florence Pyatt Franklin, who survive
Mr. Franklin was a graduae of Cranberry High School.
He worked at Foster Forbes Glass for 10 years and then for Larry
Taylor Dairy Farm.
Mr. Franklin was a member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church and
was active in the Venango County 4-H.
He was married Nov. 4, 1989, to the former Sherry Ann Heckathorn, who
survives.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Ben
Franklin of Seneca; a daughter, Carol Franklin at home; two sisters,
Ferne Campbell and her husband, Clay, of Oil City, and Linda Apel and
her husband, Scott, of Knox; and several nieces of nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Franklin.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Morrison
Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Heckathorn United
Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Heckathorn United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Ellis, pastor of the church, and
the Rev. Elbert Hutto, uncle of Mr. Franklin, officiating.
Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the
William Franklin Fund, c/o Clay Campbell, P.O. Box 77921, Seneca.
Stephanie K. Garbacz
Stephanie K. Garbacz, Ph.D., 82, of Alexandria, Va., died Saturday,
July 3, 2004
Survivors include two sisters, Irene Watson and Helen Eisenman, both
of Oil City.
An obituary will be published in a future edition of The Derrick.
Hazel E. Haugh
Hazel E. Haugh, 79, of Mendenhall Road, Brookville, died Friday, July
16, 2004, at Clarion Hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1925, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Benjamin
George and Clara Goodman George, and was raised by Frank and Elizabeth
George in Mechanicsville.
She worked as a waitress and bartender in the Brookville area
She was a member of the Roseville Missionary Society, the Prebyterian
Church of Brookville and the FOE 983 Auxiliary.
Recently, she attended the Roseville Chapel
She enjoyed her family, pets and painting
Surviving are two daughters, Maurina Kay Ferraro and Janet Lindenmuth
and her husband, Steve, all of Brookville, and a son, Thomas Haught of
Fontana, Calif.
Also surviving are a brother, Leroy George of Oil City; five
grandchildren, Melanie Ferraro, Tammy Strohm, Kristyn Snyder, Shannon
Rittenhouse and Matthew Haugh; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Dennis Arthur
Haugh.
Friends may call from noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the
McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville.
Funeral seervices will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home
with the Rev. James Fillhart officiating.
Interment will be in Roseville-Bethel Cemetery in Union Township,
Jefferson County.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society,
c/o Karyn King, 3 Marlin St., Brookville; Clarion County Humane
Society; Roseville Chapel or Presbyterian Church, Brookville.
Kenneth Swank
Kenneth Swank, 60, of 150 Ranch St., Seneca, died at 10:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Beverly Health Care in Shippenville, where
he had been a resident since he was involved in a pedestrian accident
on Route 257 last year.
Born Aug. 28, 1943, in Indiana, he was the adopted son of the late
Dale and Helen Swank. He was raised in the Ford City area.
Mr. Swank was married Oct. 8, 1984, to Ruth Rodgers in Grace United
Methodist Church in Oil City. On Oct. 8, 1999, they renewed their
vows at Christ United Methodist Chuch in Franklin to celebrate their
15th wedding anniversary.
He enjoyed being outdoors and also enjoyed crafts such as working
with construction paper and putting photo albums together.
He is survived by four brothers, Bob, Ted, Danny and Alan; and a
sister, Alice.
Friends may call from 10 a.m.to noon Monday in the Reinsel Funeral
Home.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday in the funeral home with
the Rev. Jack Friggle, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church,
officiating.
Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery in Franklin and will take
place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations are being accepted at the Reinsel Funeral Home,
116 Bissell Ave., Oil City, to help defray the cost of a monument for
Mr. Swank's grave.
