Francis Warren "Brownie" Brown
Senior District Magistrate Francis Warren "Brownie" Brown, 80, of 92
Sharon Road, Greenville, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005,
at UPMC Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1924, in Cleveland, he was a son of F. M. and
Marguerite Geary Brown.
He liked to call himself "an original Cleveland Brown."
He attended St. Michael High School, Greenville, and was a member of
St. Michael Church.
Mr. Brown began working at the age of 12 by helping deliver bread
with Chris Staynoff of the Home Bakery, Clarksville Street,
Greenville. He continued working at the Home Bakery through high
school and also worked at his father's gas station, Brownie's Service
Station on Main Street.
He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Texas, California and the
Philippines from 1942 to 1945 and received the American Campaign and
Asiatic Campaign medals.
After his discharge, he worked for the Home Bakery and TipTop Bakery
in Youngstown.
He became a justice of the peace in 1960.
In 1963, he left the bakery and became a full-time agent for John
Hancock Insurance.
In 1969, the justice of the peace offices were changed to district
magistrate offices, and Brown won the office in the general election.
After serving three terms, he retired in 1988. He then served as
senior magistrate.
He had been a co-owner of Hartstown Golf Course since 1988.
He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Greenville
VFW Post 3374, the Greenville Lions Club, the Benevolent Order of Elks
and the Fraternal Order of Police.
He was an avid reader and was well known for his sense of humor. A
big football fan, he loved the Cleveland Browns and disliked the
Steelers.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during Sunday
morning breakfasts, a tradition he continued from his own parents.
He was married Jan. 3, 1948, in Erie to Doris Jane O' Neil, who
preceded him in death on July 8, 2000.
Surviving are 49 descendants including three daughters, Mickey and
her husband, Rick Smith, Becky and her husband, Doug Haylett, and
Gerri Marie and her husband, Larry Davis, all of Greenville; and four
sons, Daniel Brown and his wife, Carla, the Rev. William Brown and his
wife, Thelma, all of Greenville, Michael Brown and his wife, Diana, of
New Bethlehem, and Robert Brown and his wife, Kathy, of Hartstown.
Survivors also include 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren,
including a great-grandson born March 15, whom Mr. Brown was sadly
unable to meet.
Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Seiver of Greenville and Mary
Ann Lafferty of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Jim Brown of Greenville, a
sister-in-law, Mary Ann Brown of Greenville; in-laws, Mary Jane
O'Neil, Joe O' Neil and Bill Wagner, all of Erie, Norm and Sally Nuber
of Columbus, Ohio, and Beth O'Neil of Grove City; and dozens of nieces
and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a
granddaughter, Sarah Smith; brothers Bill and Denny Brown; and a
sister, Mary Florence Sanders.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Loutzenhiser-Jordan
Colonial Funeral Home, 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at
St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville.
Interment with military honors provided by the VFW Post 3374 will be
in St. Michael Cemetery, Greenville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St Michael
School endowment fund, 85 N. High St., Greenville, 16125.

Ronald B. Stiver
Ronald B. Stiver, age 62, of 6043 Sandy Lake-Polk Road, Polk, Sandy
Lake Township, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at home
after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 9, 1932, in Punxsutawney, he was a son of Bruce W. and
Arveda LaVerna Smith Stiver.
He attended school in Punxsutawney.
Mr Stiver served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He was employed 32 years as Spang Power Control as a wireman,
retiring in 1998.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He loved bluegrass music, old cars, motorcycles and Pepsi.
He was married May 26, 1962, to Pansy Shields, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. Mazon of Sandy Lake and
Cathy J. Krepp of Franklin; three sons, James A. Stiver and his wife,
Mary, of Sandy Lake, Charles A. Stiver of Sandy Lake and Kenneth
Stiver of Cloe; a sister, Mrs. Francis (Marilyn) Hilliard of North
Tonawanda, N.Y.; and two brothers, Louis E. Stiver and his wife, Ruby,
of Polk, and Raymond A. Stiver and his wife, Diane, of Medina, N.Y.
Survivors also include nine grandchildren, Megan Beatty and Crystal
Stiver, Steven Evanitz, and Trevor Krepp, all of Franklin, and Ariel
Stiver, James Stiver Jr., Tami Mazon, Jacob Stiver and Amy Mazon, all
of Sandy Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the former
Alexander-McMullen Funeral Home, 3236 S. Main St., Sandy Lake. The
Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro, is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home
with the Rev. H. Patrick Vance, pastor of Lakeview Church of God,
officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer
Society.
