Levi Heidrick who accidentally shot himself at Brookville last Saturday was
well known in Clearfield. He was a resident of DuBois for many years and was
very popular. He was also quite successful in business.

Fred Mossop, who has suffered with rheumatism for several weeks is,
slow-convalescing. "Enoch" isn't the most patient sufferer and the other day
complained to a visitor that he has been in bed longer than Noah was in the
ark.

Burnside Church Struck
During the storm Monday afternoon the Methodist church at Burnside was
struck by lightning and the tower set on fire. It was sometime before the
flames could be reached and much damage done to the building, plastering,
etc. This time the church was insured. When struck with lightning before
there was no insurance. During this storm hailstone larger than eggs fell.

Mrs. John Mabie, of Moose Creek was bitten on the lip by a rattlesnake while
picking huckelberries on the mountain near her home two weeks ago. Mrs.
Mabie did not swoon away or rush for help, as might be expected. No. She sat
down and proceeded to suck the poison from the wound. She has experienced no
bad effects whatever except a temporary swelling of the lips and face.

Miss Grace McLaughlin, who was home from Williamsport on her vacation a
couple of weeks ago, was stricken with typhoid fever a few days after her
return and is now in the Williamsport Hospital. The last intelligence
received by her parents yesterday was that she is getting along nicely and
that he has no doubt of her recovery.

Better Stop in Time
A certain old man who makes a practice of following young girls and visiting
ladies about the streets ought to know better, but he don't. Some of these
days he will carry home the evidence of a first-class thrashing and then
there will be the explanations. Better stop in time.
