Passed Over the River

Rev. Father James BRENNAN, the first pastor of St. Catherine's Catholic
Church, DuBois, died Wednesday morning, August 7, in a Cleveland hospital
whither he had gone several weeks ago when he found that his days were
numbered. Father Brennan had been ill with stomach and nervous troubles for
a couple of years. He was one of the ablest priests in the Erie diocese and
greatly beloved by his people. He built churches in the Erie diocese at
Germantown, Potter county; Sterling, Cameron county; Benezette, elk county
and DuBois. He was placed in charge of the Sharon church in 1888. His
brother, Hon. John BRENNAN, of Wayne county survives him.

Mrs. Cornelia CARNS, widow of the late Simon CARNS died at the old homestead
in Paradise, Lawrence township Wednesday, August 7, 1901, aged 82 years.
Mrs. CARNS' health began to fail over a year ago and she gradually grew
weaker until the end. She was a splendid woman, one who endeared herself to
all who lived in the neighborhood where she spent more than a half century
of her life. She was charitable, kind and motherly to the last degree. Her
husband died in 1887. She is survived by five sons and two daughters, John
and James, of Lawrence; Welty of Ohio; William of Tyrone; Mrs. Michael
BOTTORF, of Tyrone, and Mrs. Frank MEADER, of W. Va. The funeral will take
place to-morrow. Interment in the Owens cemetery.

Lewis C. WATSON died at his residence near the Dale M.E. church, Bradford
township, Tuesday, August 2, 1901, of stomach troubles, aged 48 years.
Deceased was a bachelor and lived with his mother, who is now 89 years of
age. He was a brother of James A. WATSON, of Bradford, and a son of _______
WATSON, who was drowned at Birch Point many years ago. Deceased was highly
respected in that neighborhood, where he spent his entire life. The funeral
took place Sunday, Rev. Rishell conducting the services. Interment at the
Dale cemetery.

Archibald M. WADDELL, father of Rev. J. M. WADDELL, of the Presbyterian
church, died at his home in Princeton, Illinois, Thursday, August 1, aged 73
years. Rev. WADDELL had concluded a visit to his parents and was on his way
back to Clearfield when he received the sad intelligence that his father had
passed into that other life. He returned to his old home and attended the
funeral. He arrived here this week accompanied by his mother.

Mrs. Matthew McCULLY, died at her home in Osceola, Thursday, August 1, 1901,
aged 84 years. She is survived by her husband and several children among
whom are Postmaster Frank McCULLY and Mrs. J.B. McFADDEN, wife of the editor
of the Leader Courier; also by her brother John BYERS, of Ramey, and her
sister, Mrs. John W. SHUGERT, of Clearfield.

Emma, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Alex WALLACE, died at her home on Mt. Joy
Friday, August 2, 1901, of consumption, aged 17 years. The funeral took
place Sunday, interment at Mt. Joy. Rev. M. K. Foster in charge of the
services.
