JOSEPH DAVID DUCKETT
Singer and bass player

Joseph D. Duckett, 80, of Lawrence park Township,
died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
He was born May 25, 1922, in Clearfield, son of the
late John and Jennet Wilson Duckett. He was a
professionsl musician, known for his baritone voice
and bass playing.
He was a classified advertising salesman for the
Erie Times News, retiring in 1987.
He was a staff sargeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps,
20th Air Force division, during World War ll. He was
stationed in Waco, Texas as a physical instructor, and
also served in Saipan, Tinian, and Guam.
He was a lifetime member of the American Federation
of Musicians, a member of the American Legion Carl
Neff Post 571, Lawrence Park Athletic Club, Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 264, and Loyal Order of the Moose
Lodge No. 98.
He was a hunter and outdooorsman.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and
Richard Duckett; six sisters, Catherine Smith, Ruth
Maloy, Gertrude Duckett, Evelynne Boyle, Helen Burns
and Margaret Loftus; and a son-in-law, Gene Renzi.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Zalenski
Duckett; five daughters, Laura El-Shenawy and her
husband Sherif, of Lawrence Park, Mary Jo Herron and
her husband Thomas, of Fort Worth, Texas, Debra Renzi
of Harborcreek Township, Rebecca Samler and her
husband, Kennith, of Erie, and Suzanne Abercrombie, of
Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Joseph L. Duckett of Lawrence
Park; a brother, Charles Duckett and his wife, Eloise,
of Erie; four sisters, Ann McCray and her husband,
Robert, of Louisville, Ky., Janet Williams of Erie,
Monica Francis of Phoenix, and Paula Burns of Toledo,
Ohio; his companion, Irene Reed of Findlay Lake, N.Y.;
six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the G.R. Bailey Funeral Home,
4396 Iroquois Ave., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be held there Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.,
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark the
Evangelist Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1521
Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502.
