This year I will not get to Clearfield County until Sunday of Memorial Day
weekend, I plan on staying until Tuesday PM and hope to get to the courthouse or
at least the Library. I have relatives at Oak Hill in Curwensville, the
Friends Cemetery in Grampian, and the Catholic cemetery in Grampian. I have
relatives other places too but most likely will not have time to get to all of the
cemeteries. BTW most of the cemeteries in the county that I know are well
kept up. This includes the McClure cemetery where so many early settlers are
buried. Many of the first headstone are not very readable, but then that is
early headstones. The Union Cemetery in Luthersburg must have gotten tired of
people trying to read John and Lydia Kirk's stones or maybe wanted to honor them.
Anyway they have a larger modern stone with their dates and a list of their
children on it. BTW the Clearfield County Cemetery site has names of those
buried there and very few of the Kirks and their in laws are listed, unless the
cemetery is divided into two different parts. E-mail me if you want something
done for a grave.
