Hello list,
Just wanted to give a heads up on the Highland cemetery restoration project. The contractor arrived yesterday, and reset several stones. The contract is for 30 stones of various degrees of repairs. One obelisk completed today was a sight to see! It stands about 15 foot, and was toppled. They reset the base and set all the pieces ane it looks great. In a day and a half I reset 18 stones myself. By days end tomorrow nearly 50 stones will have been either reset or repaired. Still have a long way to go, but this is a real good start.
If any of you are close to Clinton County and would care to join us, the 2nd annual Historical Lantern Light Tour of Highland Cemetery will be this weekend, Fri the 10th and Sath the 11th at 7:30 pm. Sunday afternoon at 3pm. all proceeds will benefit the restoration project. This is a strenous up hill walking tour, of about 1 1/2 hous in length, but a really great time. Last year we did the Friday night tour and it was still well attended. $5.00 is the entrance fee, and it is a guided tour.
We are also having an adopt a stone program, as in all of our communities descendents from cemeteried created in the mid 1800's are far removed from the area. If anyone would like to fund a particular stone restoration, please contact me.
Thanks for your attention,
