Hello,
I've been reading all the posts to this list for a
couple weeks now, and I think it's high time
I post a little about my Crawford County roots.
I must say that I really appreciated the charts
posted about diseases, war, etc. They'll
definitely come in handy. Thank you.
My Crawford County roots are in Ausswago (sp?)
Township and the surrounding area, I believe.
The family that I'm researching is the HOPKINS
family:
Gilbert ? HOPKINS
b. June 1817 in Ausswago
m. 1842 in Ausswago
d. 30 Nov 1875 in Crawford County
(His wife)
Rachel ? HOPKINS (maiden - LEWIS?)
b. 19 Oct 1821 in Ausswago (?)
d. ? in Seneca, PA
THEIR ELEVEN CHILDREN:
Perry O. HOPKINS
Melville M. HOPKINS (my direct line)
b. 1861 in PA
m. 2 May 1888
d. 1895 and buried in Monclova, OH
Samuel F. HOPKINS
Lucina ? HOPKINS (married name - LEWIS)
Malvina ? HOPKINS
Almead ? HOPKINS (female)
George A. HOPKINS
Mary M. HOPKINS
Don't yet have the other 3 children's names.
Some of my information is sketchy as it comes
from the research of a distant family member
who died some years ago. Her son was kind
enough to let me go through the information
which she had collected, but it was a bit
confusing and somewhat unsubstantiated.
I do, however, have a copy of a 1913 article
from the Seneca Kicker newspaper which
discusses the life of Rachel Hopkins as she
celebrated her 92nd birthday.
I would greatly appreciate any tips you all
could provide on doing my research in
Ausswago Twp. I have not been able to
clearly distinguish where would be the best
place to begin finding information in the
county. I'm hoping to make a visit there
at some point this summer.
Thanks.
Regards,
