Hi,
Leslie Mehana said I should write to you. I am looking for information on
my GGrandfather. His name was James John Smith. Family story goes he was
born in 1852 in Clay county Ireland then brought to this side of the ocean
by Mr and Mrs. R. Quinn. His first wife was Margaret Ruffesburger of
Toronto Canada. Then he married my GGrandmother Rachel Melissa Looney
supposedly August 11, 1901 in Jamestown NY. They lived in Titusville. They
had 2 sons. David Ellis Smith (a black sheep that was put in prison once
served his time then was arrested again and ran away while being taken to
jail and was never heard from). He was also rumored to have played with
Count Bassie before Count Bassie was famous. The second son was Elmer Cyril
Smith (my Grandfather) born 4/15/07. He married Fredericka Zeilglar
5/14/1927 and they lived in Erie til their passing. Any help you can send
would be great as all of this is family talk not proven (except the jail on
Uncle Ellis as I have a copy of a letter he wrote to his mom from there in
1938. I am also traveling to that area shortly and will be doing some
searching to try to find the facts.
Thanks for any help you can lend,
Laurie Schultz
