DEATH OF JOSEPH F. CANCILLA
Joseph F. Cancilla, who with his wife owned and operated the Virginia
Beauty Shoppe in Linesville for the past four years, and who operated a
barber shop at Hotel Conneaut before the war, died suddenly at his home in
Linesville about 2:15 p.m. Monday. He was 42 years old.
Mr. Cancilla, who had been in ill health for the past year, managed the
French Beauty Shop in Greenville for seven years. He was employed by the
Keystone Ordnance Works during the war, and was a licensed gun dealer. He
was a member of the Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church and the Linesville
Fire Department.
Surviving are his widow, the former Virginia Rawson; and his mother,
Mrs. Genevieve Cancilla, two brothers, Santo and Salvatore, and a sister,
Antoinette, all of Monongahela.
Friends may call today and tonight at the Maryott Funeral Home. Removal
will be made early Wednesday to the Bebout and Yohe Funeral Home at
Monongahela, where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, with
interment following at Monongahela Cemetery.
DEATH OF SAMUEL J. STEWART
Samuel J. Stewart, 76, former resident of Harmonsburg, died Monday
morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Robinson of Corry.
A retired Erie Railroad employee, he was a member of the Maintenance of
Way Union; Conneaut Lake lodge 980 of the IOOF, and the Linesville Baptist
Church.
He is survived by a brother, James Stewart of Corry, and by several
nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Rhodes Funeral Home, Conneaut Lake, where
services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., with interment following at
Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville.
DEATH OF WALTER J. LUPHER
Walter J. Lupher, 61, a retired Erie Railroad engineer of McGuffintown,
died Monday morning at Meadville City Hospital where he had been a patient
for about two days.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Jean
Hodges of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Charlmina Hazen of Atlanta, Ga.; and
two sisters, Miss Esther Lupher of Chicago, and Mrs. Alice Johnson of
Meadville.
Friends may call at the Hunter Funeral Home, Saegertown, where services
will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with interment following at Watson Run
Cemetery.
DEATH OF EDWARD W. BRANDT
Edward W. Brandt of 510 South Main Street, Lewistown, a former Meadville
resident, died Monday morning at the Robert Packer Hospital at Sayre.
He is survived by his widow, the former Madge Snyder; two daughters and
a son, and his mother, Mrs. Vincent, all of Lewistown.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Fretz Funeral Home in Lewistown.
DEATH OF MRS. CARRIE BANNON
Mrs. Carrie Bannon, 75, of McKees Rocks, died at Shadyside Nursing Home
at McKees Rocks, Sunday, following a brief illness.
Surviving are her husband and three sons - Edward and Charles of McKees
Rocks, and Paul of Meadville; also seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
FUNERAL OF SAMUEL HECKER
Funeral services in memory of Samuel Hecker were held Monday afternoon
at the McBride Funeral Home with Arthur Hannah of the Bethany Methodist
Church, officiating.
Interment was at Greendale Cemetery with James Davern, William Davern,
Samuel Rogers and Kenneth Winters assisting as bearers.
DEATH OF JOYCE ELLEN McLALLEN
Joyce Ellen McLallen, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C.
McLallen of 552 New Castle Street, Butler, died at Butler County Memorial
Hospital, Butler, Friday afternoon.
Surviving are her parents, and grandparents. Mr. McLallen is a former
Meadville resident.
Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral
Home, with interment at Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery, Butler.
