Subject: [Crawf'rd] Horace Fields - Cussewago
Date: Mon, 22 Apr 2002 12:57:06 -0700
I'm looking for information concerning Horace FIELDS, who was, according
to the Census records, a resident of Cussewago, between at least 1840 and
1880.
In the 1850 Census, "Horrace" Fields, 41, is listed with his wife
Maridona(?), 38; sons Pethan(?), 17; Reuben, 12; Henry, 10; Edward, 6;
and William, 3; and daughters Mary, 16; Hannah, 8; and Sarah, 4/12.
Also living with them was 81-year-old Hannah Fields, presumably Horace's
mother.
In the 1860 Census, "Horace" Fields, 50, is listed with his wife
Mardeuna(?), 47; sons Edward, 16; William, 12; and Horace, 6; and
daughters Hannah, 17; and Sarah, 9.
In the 1870, Horace's wife is not listed, presumably she died between
the 1860 and 1870 Census dates.
And in the 1880 Census, 70-year-old Horace is living with his son
Reuben and Reuben's wife Martha.
And 66-year-old Horace W. Fields and his wife Mary are listed in the
1920 Census in Spring, Crawford County.
My interest is the elder Horace's daughter Mary.
According to family records, my great-granduncle Patterson Francis HART
married Mary Jane FIELDS In 1856 in Cussawago. This is also confirmed
in his Civil War pension record.
I'm trying to find out if this is the right Fields family.
In the 1860 Census, Patterson and Mary HART were enumerated in
Cussewago. Patterson was 23, Mary was 25, and their daughter Hellen
was 3. Mary age of 25 in 1860 is in reasonable agreement for the
1860 Mary FIELD.
Two families earlier in the enumeration were Francis and Amanda Whipple,
Patterson's uncle and aunt. Francis Whipple was the brother of Patterson's
mother Florina H. (Whipple) HART.
In the 1870 Census, Patterson and Mary were enumerated in Groton, Tompkins
County, NY. Francis and Amanda Whipple still resided in Cussewago.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
