Message Board Post:

I strongly suspect someone I am looking for named John L Smith was originally from Crawford County. He and his family were living in Spartansburg in 1870, having been in Clover Twp, Jefferson County for the previous two censuses.

What I find particularly compelling is that he had a son named Judson (b ca 1842; married a woman named Mary). I noticed another Judson Smith in Crawford County who was roughly the same age as John L Smith, and I am wondering if perhaps John and the older Judson were brothers.

John was a miller by occupation if this is at all helpful.

John L Smith was married to a woman named Mary Ann
They had several children:

Harriet b 1832
Lydia b 1834 m John C Clover
Louisa b 1836
Eliza b 1840
Judson b 1842
Catherine b 1844
Mary b 1845
John L b 1850
Philistia (in 1910 listed as a widow, Philistia Akin) b. 1850
Rebecca b 1852
Alice F b. 1855

Thanks very much!
