Hi Irene, I strongly SUSPECT that Samuel Shannon died in the Civil War. You say you can't find any record of him in the Civil War records, but I just looked at the 5 volumes of PA Volunteers: as posted on this Crawford Co. site and found a Samuel Shannon, who was killed on 30 June 1862 at Charles City Crossroads. Additionally, there are abt 26 more of them, so it is probably a case of "which one". Don't forget, these guys didn't necessarily enlist in the co, or even state, in which they lived. Good Luck. Bill
