I have noticed while reading emails sent thru the rootsweb mailing lists to
various PA counties, German-American & PADutch lists that there are alot of
people also cc to Stephenson County, Illinois. Why Stephenson County? Was it
the end of the "National Road"? What was the major attraction? Was it a
major destination for United Brethren?

My Eastern PA ancestors-
Samuel CAMERON (KEMMERER) & his wife Amelia (WEBNER),
two of their grown children:
Henry WOLFE & his wife Anna Mary (CAMERON),
William CAMERON & his wife Lyda Jane (MATTER)
left Dauphin & Lycoming Counties to go to Freeport, Illinois.
I know William CAMERON was attending the Teachers Institue there.
The rest of the family were farmers.
They decided to move on to Jewell County, Kansas in 1870.
