Subject: "The Wedge": Francis SMITH & Robert EYRE
Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2000 09:53:36 -0500 (EST)

Am I the only one researching Robert EYRE (wife Elizabeth E., maiden
name unknown) who sold land in Bethel twp, Chester cnty, PA to Edward BEZER
in 1726 and who purchased two lots in New Castle city in 1726/27 from John
FRENCH and James MERRIWETHER?
In 1721/22 Henry PEIRCE of Chester cnty, PA, as Exec/Admin for Francis
SMITH, late of Cecil cnty, MD; posted a 200 pound bond to Robert EYRE
regarding a piece of land in Cecil cnty, MD called "Knollwood"
or "Knowlewood".
In 1729 Robert EYRE and his wife Elizabeth sold certain lots in the
city of New Castle to Francis LAND.
Also in 1729 Robert EYRE released his interest in the Henry PEIRCE bond
to Thomas COLVILL of Cecil cnty, MD and then in 1730 Thomas COLVILL
(COWELL??) as Assignee for Robert EYRE, acknowledged receipt of this land
from Henry PIERCE, again as Exec. for Francis SMITH; and his wife Sarah and
son Henry PIERCE Jr.
1714 Francis SMITH was listed for 42 acres known as "Horn Point" in
Cecil cnty Land Patents and Certificates.
In 1726 Sarah PEARCE, wife of Henry PEARCE of PA, was listed in Land
Patents and Certificates for 120 acres in Cecil cnty, MD for 120 acres known
as "Locust Neck", certificate first in the name of Francis SMITH.
By 1754, 1760 a Francis SMITH is listed in Cecil cnty, MD Debt Books
for "Knowlwood" and for land referred to as "Locust Point" which is
interesting, like perhaps "Horn Point" and "Locust Neck" may have been
adjoining and then united into one parcel known as "Locust Point".
I'm wondering if this land in Cecil cnty, MD is actually in "the wedge"
wherein land was often "moved" from Chester cnty, PA to New Castle cnty, DE
or Cecil cnty, MD and/or vice versa.
