Lawrence Kestenbaum (of The Political Graveyard site) sent me the following:
>It turns out that I can tentatively confirm this! The 1921-22 Smull's
>Legislative Handbook has a biographical sketch for him as one of the
>incumbent state senators at the time. Unfortunately, it doesn't give
>parents', spouse or childrens' names, but it does provide a date of birth
>which matches the above, except for being one year off.
>
>This is what it says (pardon inevitable typos), in very small print on
>page 1321:
>
> T. LAWRENCE EYRE, Chester County, was born in Birmingham township,
> Chester County, Pa., May 24, 1862; educated in the public schools
> and West Chester normal school; was engaged in the wholesale
> grocery business for six years and in the brokerage business for
> about two years; was secretary to Congressman Darlington during
> the sessions of 1887 and 1888, and clerk to the President pro
> tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate in 1889. In July of the same
> year he was appointed collector of statistics in the Department
> of Internal Affairs; was chairman of the Republican county
> committee of Chester county in 1893 and 1894; was appointed
> Deputy Secretary of Internal Affairs in 1895, as the result of
> the appointment of Secretary Stewart as Adjutant General, and
> the promotion of Deputy Secretary Brown to the head of the office,
> continuing in that position until General Latta was qualified as
> Secretary of Internal Affairs; was appointed deputy collector of
> customs at Philadelphia, June 15, 1898, serving until February 1,
> 1899, when he resigned to go to Harrisburg to assist in the
> conduct of the Senatorial campaign; was general assistant to the
> chairman of the Republican State Committee, campaigns of 1897 and
> 1898; appointed Superintendent of Public Grounds and Buildings by
> Governor Stone on April 24, 1899, and served in that office until
> January, 1903; since that time has been engaged in the railroad
> contracting business, with offices in Philadelphia, and is also
> interested in the development of oil properties and the opening of
> bituminous coal proprties in western Pennsylvania; was elected to
> the Senate in 1916; re-elected in November 1920; elected President
> pro tempore of the Senate at the close of the session of 1921.
>
>There is also a picture of him on a nearby page. I'm not good at
>describing people, but he has white or light-colored hair and moustache.
>He looks distinguished but a bit elfin.
So we still don't know WHERE Thomas Lawrence EYRE was buried. Unless
someone can find his obit at Chester County Historical Society for us.
