Hi,
My Great grandfather William Henry Miller emmigrated from Millom, Cumbria,
England sometime around 1920. His wife Sarah and several children followed, I
have them on the 1930 census for 1005 Terril St Chester, Delaware dounty,PA.
My grandfather (Harry Miller) died years ago and I never knew him, but I
recently contacted my great uncle Fred who is 89, who was one of the children who
went over with William and Sarah. He said they went to the US with no house
to live in and no plans, they just turned up,sat on some church steps until
somebody turned up to help them, then they all got jobs and tried to settle.
Does anyone know what society may have helped them and do records exist for
this kind of good charity? I dont think the family were religious.

Sarah could not settle and left William to return to England with the
children. William died in 1939 in a road accident. Could anyone advise me on how
to get a social security no for William so I can obtain a death certificate?
Also does anyone know if Terril St still exists? Any information is greatly
appreciated, These lists are so helpful when tracing ancestors abroad.
Thanks,
Kathryn Miller
