I'm hoping to locate a copy of the journal written by Moses Roberts. Moses
was a young Quaker from Plymouth Township (then Philadelphia County) in 1767
when he presented a certificate of membership from Gwynedd Monthly Meeting
of Friends to the Exeter Monthly Meeting of Friends in Berks County. He
later moved to Catawissa (now Columbia County, PA) and died in 1788.
Searches of the on-line catalogs of the usual suspects (e.g., the Swarthmore
Friends Historical Library and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania) have
turned up nothing. However, in "A History of Catawissa Friends' Meeting",
by John E. Eshelman, Berwick Historical Society, Volume I, Number I (1940?)
<http://www.libraries.psu.edu/do/dbwholepdfs/29342611_whole.pdf> Eshelman
makes several references to the journal and acknowledges a "M. Elizabeth
Whitacre of Pennsdale and Media, Pennsylvania, for sending the writer a
hand-written copy of Moses Roberts' journal some years ago."
Is Ms. Whitacre known amongst genealogical circles in Delaware county? As
she was in Media, I'm wondering if SKS could check if the journal has,
perhaps, found its way from her to the Delaware County Genealogical Society.
TIA!
