Dear Group,

This is just a little story about a memory of two little girls that keeps
popping into my head. I met them back in August when I attended my niece's
wedding at the Renaissance Fair near Oswego, NY.

I was tired and dusty and I had to go to the bathroom. When I finally found
a Ladies Room, I stood in line with everyone else. In back of me stood two
little girls. One was about four years old and the other about five years
old. And on the sidelines was their father. He kept telling the older one
to make certain that she took care of her little sister.

As we all waited patiently in line the little girls started pushing and
shoving one another and when it got to where I could see that I was the next
one in line and knew that the next vacant stall was mine, the two little
girls beat me to it! I didn't really mind and I commented to the woman
standing behind them, "Discretion is the better part of valor!" She
understood. Shortly afterward, the stall next to them was all mine.
Therefore, I heard every word that the older sister said to the younger
sister while the two of them were in there together. I don't know what the
problem was but I certainly heard the older sister say very sternly to the
younger one, "You are SUCH a disappointment to me!" I could hardly keep
from laughing out loud! It was obvious to me that she had heard such words
from their mother and since she was the "mother" at the moment, she was
playing the part. After all, her father had told her to look after her
sister.

The girls and I exited the stalls at about the same time and while I was at
the sink washing my hands the two little girls needed to wash their own
hands. However, neither of them were tall enough to turn the water on and
the older sister asked me to help her. So I turned the water on for them,
made certain that their hands were soaped up, and I scrubbed and rinsed them
both. They took it all in stride.

But in the meantime, one of the women who had witnessed the entire scene
asked me if I had heard what the older sister had said to her younger
sister. I said that I did and we both laughed out loud. It was a precious
moment of a little girl taking care of her younger sister. Daddy would have
been so proud of her if he had only known!
