Dear Group,
I thought I would share with you what I sent my Niagara County list last night. This is what I sent them. What do you think?

Dear Folks:
This is late breaking news and I wanted to run it by you.
Yesterday our 99-year old Town of Porter Historian , Cora Gushee, and I spent a delightful lunch together and then I drove her to the Town Hall where she submitted her resignation as Town Historian. In the process she recommended that I be appointed to replace her as the Town Historian.
As a result, I composed the following letter to the Town Board submitting my offer to replace her and submitting my qualifications for the position. This is what I wrote:
Town of Porter Board of Directors
3265 Creek Road
Youngstown, NY 14174
Gentlemen,
I have been informed that our Town of Porter Historian, Cora Gushee, has submitted her resignation as Town Historian and I would like to submit my offer to replace her in that position and to submit my qualifications for your consideration.
I know that no one could ever be the historian that she is but for over ten years I have been dedicated to researching local history and the genealogy of the local families of the entire town. I have written and had published a book on local history, "It Happened Just Down the Road," that is still being used as a teaching tool in the area schools to teach local history.
Over the years I have researched the history of the local families to the extent that I have entered information on nearly 10,000 individuals in a computer genealogy program. That information is also entered into the Town of Porter Historical Society's computer at the museum to help anyone who is researching their Town of Porter family roots.
I have served as the president of the Town of Porter Historical Society and for a number of years I served on the society's board of directors. I also served as the director of the society's museum during which time I was instrumental in setting up a dedicated computer program to record the inventory of our artifacts. In addition I directed the process of photographing the artifacts to be included with the inventory in the computer.
I have been the editor of the historical society's newsletter, Porter's Past, for several years now and my most recent endeavor is to recognize all of the veterans of our town who served our country in any war, from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War to the present. As of this date I have entered information in my computer regarding the service of our veterans totaling 450 individuals. I continue to research and record more information on them on a daily basis. With concerted effort on the part of our historical society, I expect that number to reach into the thousands and I hope and envision that a proper all-name Military Honor Roll will be displayed prominently in the Town of Porter.
In view of the above, I hope you will consider appointing me to be Cora Gushee's replacement as Town of Porter's Historian.
Sincerely,
Vee L. Housman
