Dear Group,

Some of you have let me know that you appreciate that every family has a soap opera in their family history. And some of you have teased me for more details about my personal soap opera. And oh the stories I could tell you! :-)

But in thinking back over my life and my life stories and finding myself getting older and older, I may have had many fantacies in my mind as to what I want to still happen to me but there was never the fantacy that I wanted to be appointed as the Town of Porter Historian. That was just too far fetched.

But this afternoon I called our Town Supervisor to ask him about what would be discussed in the Town Board meeting this afternoon regarding the resignation/retirement of our long-time Town Historian, Cora Gushee. He said that he would present her resignation to the board as well as my letter of offer to replace her in that position. He said that they would discuss it and then next week on Jan. 3 (the new year) they would vote on the appointment as well as other appointments for the new year.

I jokingly commented that if the board could find anyone more qualified than I, I've never seen him/her doing any research up at our Town of Porter Historical Society Museum. He laughed in response and said that he wasn't evening looking for anyone else. He had already made up his mind and that he would recommend me highly and that it would be pretty much of a "rubber stamp' deal.

Although I know I'll have a problem in dealling with the Mickey Mouse requirements of the position, what overwhelms me is that at this time in my life, it appears that the one fantasy that I never had, could very well happen.

Those of you who have researched the genealogy and the history of your area might know how I feel right now. We do the research but never ever dream that our work will be acknowledged. But then when our fantasies of a great romance in our lives have faded away, the ultimate happens. The totally unexpected.

And so the Soap Opera continues! Stay tuned!
