To Clear up some things that I have been reading. A Treat Bottling was
started in Allentown, Pa. My husband was in the soda business for 41 years.
It was the closest competition to the product he bottled. And yes it is still
in operation.
About Birch Beer and Root Beer. The bottlers used to be able to us natural
flavorings in these products. However the FDA got involved and said they
could not use the natural Sarsaparilla root. The bottlers had to go to an
artificial source. The product did not taste the same. Do you remember Hires
Root Beet. Well, the FDA ruling really hurt their business. I do not know if
they are still in business or not.
There is a product out here in the South West Called Old Bob Miller's Root
Beer. It is a pretty good soda (East Coast Expression). At least my
grandchildren used to like it. Anna in AZ
