You live in Florida, don't you, Cathy? The Amish men grow beards after they
are married, not before. Years ago I lived in Pinecraft, a Mennonite and
Amish community outside of Sarasota. I would love to have taken pictures of
the Amish men with their carts, but my respect for their belief in "no
graven images" (please, no pictures) kept me from taking any snapshots. The
Amish are forbidden to drive cars, however, they did pay Mennonites to
drive them from Ohio or Pennsylvania to Florida for the winter. Why not
spend a warm winter in Florida while their sons kept the
farms running. The Mennonites and Amish still come to Florida for the
winter. Many live there the year around, now. The small restaurant in
Pinecraft, operated by Mennonites and Amish, served the best pies I've ever
eaten! There was a line of customers waiting 1/2 to 1 hour outside the door
every evening. What good food! Later
an Amish restaurant in Sarasota opened and, from what I hear, is always
busy, too.
