My sister mentioned about mother learning to drive after daddy died, down
in Pasadena Texas. Well I had to learn to drive that brand new Olds
because my brother was so busy with his girl friend that mother was for
ever having to worry about going shopping and stuff. So the only solution
was Norma has to learn. The man that was brave enough to teach me was my
brother's girlfriend's father. he had a very serious heart condition to
boot. He was a good teacher tho. I even had to drive onto a ferry via two
boards, one for each wheel. Another learning experience was driving thru
the tunnel under the channel. To learn parking tho we went to a park
where I could learn all the tricks of parking. The first trip we took was
to SanJacenta to the Mission there. The one kind of parking I hadn't
learned was on a curve. All the parking spots were on this big curve
around the front, boy what a time I had but I eventually got parked
between two cars at that..When daddy bought the car he took out insurance
that if anything would happen to him the car payments would be paid, well
I think he only made one car payment after the down payment before he
died. His life insurance tho didn't work out that well, mother paid it by
the year in June and he died in July of "58 age 54.
The girlfriend my brother was dating became his wife. AAA yes young
love. Now they have grandchildren and I have great grandchildren.
