Edith C. Johnson, 93, of 675 Montmorenci Road
(Ridgmont), Ridgway, died Sunday morning at her
residence.
She was born November 10, 1911 in Shawmut, daughter of
the late Carl J. and Ida M. (Peterson) Carlson.
She married Elmer S. Johnson on January 23, 1946. He
preceded her in death October 9, 1978.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, Paul W. Johnson of
New Castle; a brother, Charles R. Carlson of Toby; and
two nieces, Madelyn Guthrie of Madison, Tenn. and
Cynthia Grund-Cumlet of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in
death by two sisters, Helen Guthrie and Dorothy Grund.
Mrs. Jonhson resided in Ridgway since 1957 and was a
former Toby Valley resident. She was a member of the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway, a volunteer in
many civic and health organizations, a past secretary
of the board for the Salvation Army, and a volunteer
for the Good Samaritan Food Bank. She was a graduate
of Kersey High School, the Abington Nursing School,
and Clarion State University.
She served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps in North
Africa and Italy and was a veteran of WWII. She had
been employed as a public health nurse in Philadelphia
and Altoona and was a registered nurse for the Ridgway
Area School District for 12 years.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Service for Edith C. Johnson will be held
at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Thursday at 11 a.m.
with military honors being accorded by The Ridgway
Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be the
Rev. Erik Hart, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in the Maria Lutheran Cemetery in Dagus
Mines.
Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church, the Good Samaritan Food Bank, or to the
Salvation Army.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
Thompson Funeral Home in Ridgway.
