certificate you want, how you apply and how urgently you need it.

Records Office. Click here for further information.

The centre is closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. During 1998 the
centre will also be closed on the following dates:
Friday April 10 to Monday 13 April inclusive.
Friday 25 December to Monday 28 December inclusive.
The centre will close at 1.00 pm on Thursday 24 December.
To apply in person you must search for the entry of birth, death or
marriage in the indexes, complete an application form with the right
reference and take the completed form to a member of staff at the
tills. Staff can help and advise you, but are unable to do searches
for you.
Certificates will be ready for collection, or can be posted out to you
by 1st class post, after 4 working days. For an additional fee,
certificates can be sent by guaranteed delivery.
For births, we can also supply a short certificate which shows only
the name, surname, sex, date of birth and, in most cases, place of
birth. However, for most purposes a full birth certificate is
required.
It will save you time if you can bring as much information as possible
- from family sources and documents - before you start searching the
indexes for the record you want.
The nearest stations to the centre are Angel (Northern line) and
Farringdon (Hammersmith & City, Circle lines and Thameslink). Bus
routes 38, 19 and 171A stop close to the centre along Rosebery Avenue
and route 63 along Farringdon Road.
There are NCP car parks within walking distance of the centre. For
visitors with disabilities there are a small number of spaces
available at the centre which must be booked in advance. Please ring
tel +44 171 533 6436 before you visit. If fully booked many of the
surrounding streets have single yellow line parking restrictions.
