The PAF User Manual advises the following:

1.. On the use of slashes ---- you can use a slash between two days or two years if you are unsure of the exact day or year --- but you should provide an explanation in the notes (presumably because slashes can mean different things to different people).

2.. For an event between two dates ------ enter in the date field as "From 10 Aug 1869 to 25 Sep 1869" (which I guess would cover the date range question. In any resulting gedcom extract, that is exactly what appears in the gedcom line, i.e,
"2 DATE From 10 Aug 1869 to 25 Sep 1869"
This does correctly import into another PAF (5.2) database but does not into a copy I have of FTM ver 5 --------- I wonder what about later versions and other databases?

3.. I prefer to enter an estimated date ("Est 10 Aug 1869", "Bef 25 Sep 1869", "Aft 10 Aug 1869", "Abt 10 Aug 1869" ---- as appropriate) with any explanation given in the notes for the event.

Regards,
Stewart
