Hi there list,
I have been following the thread of the emails on the above and find it
rather scandalous that in this day and age, we don't come up with something
better than Unknown etc.,
Personally, I put into place the following ie Mr McRITCHIE and MRS McRITCHIE
and then type into notes the fact that after a long time of searching for
them, I have been unable to find the people concerned. This at least gives
me some closure on the PATRIARCHAL lineage....
On some occasions I have the father and mother's christian name(s) and then
put it in as Mr Alex McRITCHIE and Mrs Mary McRITCHIE, if I only have the
father's christian name then the mother is known as Mrs Alex McRITCHIE.
But, to put Unknown in the fields is to my mind, abhorrent. I have nearly
110,000 personal names in my database and have served in various Family
History assignments in the Church and have always recommended that patrons
do NOT put UNKNOWN in any of the fields.
So please, do your ancestors a great big favour and get rid of the UNKNOWN's
in your databases, they are not UNKNOWN, they lived, had families and at the
very least deserve the title of Mr or Mrs ----------
How would you feel if your descendants did this to you?
Regards to all, have a wonderful Christmas, and a safe and prosperous New
Year.
Barbara in wonderful Mildura, Victoria, Australia
where it is beautiful one day and even more perfect the next.
