Terry,
I think your idea is fine. The only reason why I would list them separately
is if I am sending an Individual Summary to someone, then the censuses
would be listed for that person. I realize that it takes a lot of editing
and "ibids" to correct them for a book printing. I have struggled with this
problem also, but I came to the conclusion that this is the way for me to
handle it.
The other thing I would be sure to add is the township. I received an
informal history written in 1929 of two brothers who married two sisters
and migrated to my home county in Iowa. By 1929 they had 528 descendants
between them. A tremendous porttion stayed in the same county, some of them
moved within the county, and some moved out of the county and state. They
were Germans and did not have much imagination in names. The same names are
repeated over and over, and I just found it simpler to add the townwship
name in the "Comments field."
Each of my censuses are listed under the year and county for the source. I
put the state as the first word of the source; that lets all of the
Virginia censuses line up in chronological order.
One more thing: in the 1870 template "Dwelling" is wrongly spelled.
