Hi Rosemary,

There are certain things in PAF at this level of manipulation are difficult
to describe and make sense of - from a program design perspective.

What you want to do can be done - but not with as neat a final result.

Allowing your modification to the Christening Event to include the
description to stand.

In creating your special template - move (drag and drop) the Christening
event from the "EVENTS" section - which will not have the description field
attached to it (don't ask!) - Not from the OTHER EVENTS section.

Then, from the "OTHER EVENTS" you will find the "Christening - Description"
event (initially, this will be found as a sub-heading under "Christening" -
but if you switch it backwards and forwards - it creates its own event -
please don't ask!!) which you should drag and drop (only the description
field) onto the christening event you had previously moved to your new
template,

The end result is that you will have a "Christening - Description" event as
a sub event to your Christening - for appearances sake, it is unfortunate
that it treats this as a separate event - with a bold title that I cannot
see how to modify and with its own source button, which of course you do not
have to use ------- AND all your previous christening data will be
displayed.

It really has the feel of programming development stopped in the middle of
this type of manipulation.

Maybe someone else has a better explanation or work-around to this.

However, fundamentally - why do this? I'm not sure I can construct a reason
for having a description attached to all christening events - personally, I
would prefer to add any description details, as and when appropriate, to a
tagged note for any particular christening.

Regards,

Stewart

Subject: [PAF-5] Adding an extra field to an event

Hi All,

I have been trying to add an extra field to the christening event on
the individual edit window, which I can then add to the template I
have created for individuals.

I seem to have managed to do this by going to Edit > Individual
event list > Edit individual custom event > christening > edit >
'use description'.

Then to Tools > Preferences > Templates > Individual > Modify > and
swapping the christening fields.

This seemed to work, and the Individual Edit window looks as I want
it to.
ie.
Christening:
Place:
Description:

But.....

All previous christening information disappears from the Individual
Edit window, but not from the Individual List.

I hope I've explained this clearly for you to follow.

Any help sorting this out would be gratefully appreciated,

Kind regards,

Rosemary,
