I have a deed of my ancestor Hugh Mikel selling land that has his
surname spelled 4 different ways. I think it possible that the recorder
of the deed was trying to make sure that all of his bases were covered
in relation to the identification of Hugh Mikel, or perhaps he just
wanted people to know that he was able to come up with spelling
variations, and was therefore well educated. Don't worry about the
exact spellings as long as the relationships are correct. Nancy Hugo
