The easiest way is to restore from a backup created before you had the
duplicates. Failing that you will need to match/merge.The duplicates are
usually there because of importing a gedcom file. If by chance you created
the gedcom and then re-imported it, you should be able to match/merge using
the Unique Record Serial Numbers. Reading the help file on how to
match/merge would be a good idea if you haven't done it before.
I am not sure what you mean by the "screen list of names" different from the
index.
