Just a note - in case you are actually trying to "open" your back-up file.
Back-up files should not be "opened" - but instead use the "Restore" option
from the File menu option.

Thanks to those listers who replied. Meanwhile a warning for anyone like
me who decides to tidy up their family history trees and files in the
documents folder.
I can backup paf ok, but when it comes to opening it get "at attempt was
made to move the file marker before the beginning of the file", followed by
"the file appears to be damaged".
The paf trees themselves are OK, and gedcoms. Just the zip files not
working.
Will try uninstalling the paf-5 then reinstalling and see what happens,
otherwise will wait for our family computer bod to come.
