That is probably not a good idea. Installing an earlier version of any
software when a later version is present (even if you are careful to do a
custom install to a different folder) can screw up the later version. It can
change registry entries or overwrite system files with an earlier version.

Any chance you have a friend with Word 97, or could get a cheapo used
computer to install 97 in?
