Hello Somgen-L and PABEDFOR Rooters:

I just received this email from Jeff Evans, Park Ranger at Eisenhower
National
Historic Site/Gettysburg National Battlefield. Jeff is writing a book on
the 54th PA Volunteers (primarily from Bedford, Somerset, Cambria and
Fayette Counties) and is interested in connecting with any descendants of
this group. He has a substantial amount of information and would love to
talk with anyone regarding this regiment.

To read more about his project - I have included a copy of his email to
me. As a courtesy to Jeff (he is new to computers and email) please do
not send queries or other types of email. Thank You!

"My name is Jeff Evans and I am a Park Ranger at Eisenhower National
Historic Site/Gettysburg National Battlefield. Since I was a small boy,
my
Grandfather has told me tales of the Fifty-Fourth Pennsylvania Volunteer
Infantry. As I'm sure you know the regiment was raised in part in
Somerset
County. Indeed, that is where my Grandfather's uncle, John Wagner, was
from.

For the past three and a half years I have been accumulating information
about the Fifty-Fourth. My sources now range in the thousands;
accumulated
from archives across the eastern part of the United States. This has been
a
very difficult task as very little has ever been written about them. I
have volumes, literally, of the unit's military history that I have
collected. Unfortunately, very few human details have I been able to find
to match .

I am currently writing a book about the Fifty-Fourth and expect to
publish
within the next year. After I participated in a memorial service in
Ebensburg on August 2 I have received numerous leads in Cambria County.
Unfortunately Somerset County has proven to be much more difficult. If
you
could help me locate ancestors or others with an interest in the
Fifty-Fourth; I would apppreciate it. The reenactment group that has
taken
the name of the Fifty-Fourth has been greatly helpful, but all of the
help
I could get would be appreciated. Conversely, I have a great deal of
information about the members of the Fifty-fourth including physical
descriptions, birth places and hometowns and would love to share that
information with anyone searching out an ancestor.

My home address is Jeff Evans, Box 639, Fairfield PA 17320 (717)
