In your query concerning the above families you asked if any one was
researching these families? Regarding Zadock Springer, I am the archivist
for the Descendants of Dennis Springer and Ann Prickett. Zadock Springer is
their third of eleven children, born 30 Mar 1742, probably when the family
was still in Burlington Co., New Jersey. In the early 1750's Dennis
Springer moved his family to the Back Creek area of what is now Berkeley
Co., W. Vir. (then Frederick Co., Virginia.) Hampshire Co. is right in this
area of West Virginia also.
I have been to Uniontown twice now in the last six weeks - trying to
finalize data for the Springer book we hope to publish soon. The published
records of the Bowell - Jones cemetery were reviewed by me. (I had on a
previous trip to Uniontown found this cemetery to be called the Masontown
Cem.) Experience alerted me to the idea that if Zadock and wife Mary (for
whom we have no surname in our family records, originally compiled in the
1870s) were buried in a small family plot with others named Bowell and
Jones then Mary Springer was quite probably a member of either the Bowell
or Jones family. You state that there are probate records which show her to
be the daughter of a William Bowell of Hampshire Co., (W) Vir. So this
seems plausible. Zadock is a frequently used name in the family, but the
above detailed one is the only possible one to have been married to Mary
"Bowell."
Thank you for the interesting details you have shared. I hope I have helped
a little.
