Hi Joan,
With a little luck you can probably get an obit from The Pennsylvania
Room of the Uniontown Library for your grandfather. All of the local
newspapers from sometime around 1800 are kept on microfilm in the
Pennsylvania Room, and the obits are indexed up to about 1929-1930, and
kept in the same room. The 4 microfilm readers are state of the art, and
in great working order, and the staff and volunteers are most helpful.
There are also Uniontown and Connellsville City Directories on the
shelf, but I am not certain of the dates they represent, maybe from 1900
to mid- 60's. And...... you might also get lucky and find your
grandfather in one of the many local high school year books, which have
been so generously and thoughtfully donated to the Pennsylvania Room.
I forget what they are charging per obituary request, but it isn't that
much. You can call them at 724-437-1165 during the day. Their address is
24 Jefferson Street, Uniontown, Penna. 15401.
Best of luck to you in your Fayette County searches!
