Hi, Karen,
Your question sounds as if you might be referring to Fort Burd, but it was
actually built in 1759, according to Franklin Ellis' "History of Fayette County,
Pennsylvania." That became Brownsville. It had also been known as "Redstone,
Old Fort" which reportedly contained the residence of the "old Indian chief,
Nemacolin, as well as "pre-historic earthwork."

1768 does appear to have been a significant year as it was when Penn's men tried
to convince the settlers to leave the Indian lands until a treaty had been
signed (and the Indians paid, I gather.) One of the places where Penn's
appointees met with the very early settlers was at Redstone.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jane
