Genius of Liberty , Uniontown Pa., Sept. 4, 1879

Nicholson
We notice a good many farmers are turning their attention to liming
their lands. J.T.SPRINGER, JOHN HACKNEY, and LEANDER DILS are each
putting out a kiln of lime on their wheat land this fall.

A few days since a man was seen between Jacobs Creek and Cats Run ,
wearing nothing but a hat, shirt and a petticoat. Some thought he was a
tramp, but he acted so strangely that others thought he must be crazy,
and had escaped from some insane asylum.

On Wednesday evening, Aug. 20, JACOB FAST upset his threshing
machine, breaking some parts and and bending others pretty badly. With
the assistance of fifteen men it was raised up, and by 11 o'clock the
next day, it was up and running again.

Some time ago, W.T. MILLER dug a well 22 feet deep, which had not yet
been curbed or covered, On Friday night, Aug 23, he was awakened by the
howling of a dog, and on going out found that the howling came from the
bottom of the well. He went back to bed and let Mr. dog remain in his
bath until morning, when he took a rope and made a loop over one end
and dropped it down over the dog's head and hauled him out. " TOMMY "
thinks that the dog will give his place a wide berth in the future.

All the talk now is SPRAGUE- CONKLING and the demand for SPRAGUE
prints is on the increase. They have always ranked as a standard print

The steam thresher of Wakefield and Co., threshed for B.F. HARRIS, on
the 22nd ult,
275 bushels of wheat, from 7 o'clock A.M. to 11 o'clock A.M., stopping
every 30 minutes.

WILLIAM J. GHRIST, our merchant tailor, is doing a good business. We
would advise any person wanting a good fitting suit made to order, to
call, as he is prepared and will guarantee satisfaction in all cases.

The Diamond Fire Brick Co.,has taken another partner into the firm,
which now consists of Dr. DAVIDSON, W. DRUM and J.R. LAUGHERY. They say
the have more orders than they can fill for the next year.

At the sale of E.H.KING, on the 20th ult., corn sold for 46 cents per
bushel in the field, potatoes brought 85 cents per bushel. Horses and
cattle sold very high. There was a large attendance from the surrounding
country. It was estimated there was at least 500 persons present.

High House
Our farmers are now busy threshing their crops. Wheat is making a
better yield than for many years. On Wednesday of last week,Mr. THOMAS
SESLER threshed with his steam thresher ( the Eclipse ), for Mr. JAMES
LEWIS, 176 bushels of wheat of the FULTZ variety, from about 200dozens.
He threshed it in about1and 1/4 hours.

One afternoon of last week, Mr. J.N. POST went to the woods to chop
trees for WILLIAM RICHEY. While there he killed 86 snakes before
returning for supper. Mr. Post said he piled them carefully on a
stump, so that persons doubting the veracity of this snake story, can
count them for themselves. They were of the house snake variety.

Mr. GEORGE CRABLE is painting the new house of JOHN KEFOVER. Persons
desirous of seeing a good job of painting will do well to notice as they
pass that way.
