Thomas Shuman--Apparently recovered from a serious operation, preformed ten
weeks ago in the Allegheny General hospital, Thomas Shuman aged 60, one of
the best known residents of Uniontown died Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock in
that hospital when he returned for a operation of a minor nature. Three
weeks ago. Mr. Shuman was discharged from the hospital apparently cured
with the instructions to return later for observation and another operation.
Death resulted. Mr. Shuman was born in Brownsville. He was the son of
Captain Thomas Shuman, then a famous steamboat Captain. His mother was
Jennie Searight, daughter of the late William Searight, the founder of the
town of Searight. Mr. Shuman's family moved to Uniontown about 40 years ago
when the young man identified himself with his uncle James A. Searight, in
the insurance business. Since that time Mr. Suman had ingaged in the same
business winning a legion of friends by his square dealing and general
demeanor. Mr. Shuman never married. He is survived by two brothers, George
Bowman and Samuel R. and three sisters, Mrs. Emily Bulger of Uniontown; Mrs.
Florence Bulger of Allegheny county, and Miss Elizabeth Shuman of Pasadena.
Miss Shuman was with her brother during his stay in the hospital and
returned home only when he was believed to be out of danger. For a number
of years Mr. Shuman was vestryman of the St. Peter's Episcopal church. In
his everyday life he was at all times most conscientious and few residents
of Fayette county had more true friends. The remains will be removed to the
Shuman home in West Main street today with funeral services to be held
Friday afternoon.
