Good Morning Tony,
A Happy Healthy and Prosperous New Year to your Family.
Now to the Goodwin Family, In October we took out a subscription to
Ancestry.Com and I have been culling the Census Records for all of my
family and decided to do Ken's too. As I said before, I am trying to add
something besides names dates and places. Sometimes easy and sometimes
hard. I am back to Daniel's family and ran into a snag with his sister
Verlinda and husband Thomas Jennings. I just couldn't find them anywhere,
I had their son Marshall in Washington Co Pa .
I too have been working with the Delores Hartman and we have been sharing
our info. She had been told that there was a divorce in the family.
There is verification that papers were filed in October 1889 in Preston
Co WVa. but not found yet is the final decree. In the papers Thomas
states that she left him in 1886 and was living in Pa. I have been trying
to find her there but so far I have batted zero. According to the papers
filed, she had committed adultry and was living with another not named
and he was asking custody of the kids.
Now to my odd Gue connection, My grandmother Emma McIntire was a
descendant of Joseph Gue Family of Washington and Perry Twp Fayette Co.
Joseph has descendants all over Fayette Co from Brownsville, German,
Perry, Tyrone and Washington Twps and then back into Md and England. So
this is a family I have much info on. In reading the Civil War records
of John Henry Gue of Brownsville, I found applications for a pension from
an Alice Clark Bowman, the widow of Jehu Bowman, son of Mary Jane Goodwin
and Benjamin F. Bowman. They are very strange she is claiming to be his
wife and that after marriage he abandoned her, and he is denying/ I
don't think that she ever got a pension
because not too long after she is married to an Edward Johnson. At the
time of the supposed marriage she is 34 and has been widowed 1 year, John
Henry is 63, a wounded in the hand veteran with a small pension. John
Henry had raised a family of 7 children and his first wife had died in
1895. All his children grown and Alice brings 8 small children 1 of them
less than a year old. She produces a lawyer and marriage papers and in
later forms to the government he denies the fact. A Keith Bowman, is
researching this family, he lives in Charmichales ( spelt wrong), he is a
descendant of Alice
Well almost a book, so it's time to get this in the mail
Betty
